“Do not touch the spinning wheel!
I am spinning dog hair today.”
The discussion of composting shredded paper in March 2007 wandered (like a cow?) to knitting with dog hair, and referred to a news article about artist Betty Burian Kirk, who enjoys a thriving trade spinning 100 percent dog hair into yarn”, as well as to the book Knitting With Dog Hair: Better A Sweater From A Dog You Know and Love Than From A Sheep You'll Never Meet by Kendall Crolius, which is still available.
The photo is from the Chatsworth Show, August 2008.
At a later rural show, I mentioned this material to someone who was demonstrating spinning ; she told me she would want a dust mask since dog hair throws off lots of “doggy dandruff”.
